Lily out of the woods

Evidently Lily passed the item in her stomach into her intestines over night. The vet thinks she is safe now, so Lily is home again. I asked her owner to get a picture of what came out. Not sure if that will be known or not. The item was presumed to be a rawhide. Yikes. I’ve fed the dogs I’ve had since having dogs rawhides. This puts a damper on my tradition. Will have to think about this tomorrow, when I hope we get a picture.

Thank you for your prayers.

Lily in trouble

Lily is a beautiful Dobie girl of a good friend of mine. Lily has an obstruction, and has been throwing up most of the day. Her veterinarian has taken x-rays of her throughout the day, and believes the obstruction is moving, but it may not be moving fast enough. Lily may need surgery tomorrow morning, so please keep her in your prayers. She’s a good buddy of my friend’s, and is dearly loved. Don’t we all know how loving our dogs feels and when they are under the weather, well, that feeling is outrageously painful and frustrating for the human. Prayers help. So please help.

Lily needs our prayers

Lily, her mom, and I thank you.

Dogs, ESP, and the Paranormal

Does your dog have ESP?

There is an interesting website I came across today – testing your dog for specific extrasensory perception skills.

Excerpt from the above linked website: “Do you and your dog have a special connection? Does your dog seem to know when you’re coming home, even at odd hours? If so, your dog will be a great candidate for our experiment, and our $1,000 prize offered to dog owners who successfully participate.”

I heard about this from Tracie Hotchner of the Dog Talk Radio show. I downloaded the show on 9/29/07.

Baby is not one to do this sort of thing. When I came home, in the olden days when it was just Baby and me, I’d have to search out Baby when I walked in the door, and oftentimes she’d be in the little room sleeping on the futon…looking a little perturbed that I had disturbed her beauty sleep.

Snoozing Baby

Meanwhile, lately Baby’s been seeing an angel hanging out at our house. Just like my Tucker, an English Springer Spaniel who saw and barked at an entity regularly months before my mom died. Baby will look up at the corner of the ceiling and stare.

A few nights ago when I opened the back door to let everyone out. The dogs usually charge out the door, but this time, they congregated by the back door and wouldn’t leave more than two feet away. Not even with my coaxing. Someone was letting off fireworks, but that is not unusual and hasn’t stopped my fur kids from venturing out.

Pink Sky

The next night, there was a similar incident. This time, one of my dogs ventured out to the back of the yard with me. Out of my peripheral vision I saw something. When I turned, I saw a momentary white flash – just like the ghostly apparations described in literature – the flowing sheet sort of figure, but it was transparent. And then it was gone. That is when I decided to join the rest of the pack by the back door, so I nonchalantly scrammed over to them along with my brave sidekick, who followed.

The next day, I smudged the house and territory with sage. We haven’t had a problem, if that is what it was, since then.

Skyscape

My dogs are not predictors of my arrival home that I am aware of. I do my best to sneak up on them so they don’t bark a welcome for me till they hear the key jangle in the door. But they are certainly good at recognizing visitors of the paranormal kind.

Mocha

Two years ago, on this date, I met an adopter who wanted to adopt Mocha Bean, a beautiful black-and-tan Dobie girl I had fostered for nearly two months.

Beautiful Mocha Bean

What was supposed to happen was I picked her up from the owners who were turning her in, drive her to the couple with the little white dog who wanted to adopt her, and that was that. The former owners said Mocha was good with little dogs as she lived with a Jack Russel Terrier.

I’m not sure what they meant by “good,” but maybe it was more along the lines of “little dogs taste good to Mocha.” When I brought Mocha into her new home, she wanted to swallow the little old white dog. So I had to haul her back to my house. Lord Almighty! She was THE most challenging foster I ever had. She played with the other dogs while her hair stood on ends!

Mocha’s stiff hair do

And she bossed everyone around with her big mouth.

Big Opinion

Her personality required dedication by the right person. So I was thankful when just that dedicated person applied for her and lived less than a mile away. Because Mocha is a magnificent beauty, I had had applications from all over. One man applied for her who lived in Canada and was willing to drive the distance to adopt her. I don’t adopt further away than I can drive to pick up the Dobie if need be. And Mocha might need picking up, I thought.

The good news was she didn’t need picking up, and her owner has brought her a long long way in two years.

Mocha’s one of two Dobies I’ve had that has a silver-dollar-sized spot on the paw of each leg. The other is an old geezard red male who is wobbly on his paws and spunky in spirit. I sometimes wonder if he’s not responsible for Mocha’s creation in some distant way.

Regis’s Paw Dots

Meanwhile, I have to say a prayer of thanks that God brought the right person into Mocha’s life, and especially that Mocha’s living with her and not me.

10-Year Anniversary

Baby and I celebrated our 10-year anniversary in South Florida today.

10-year anniversary kiss

We are now ready to move on, once our house sells.

House for sale!

It’s been on the market since January. I had been informed it would take as long as six months to sell. So why is it ten months later and it’s still not sold?
