ATHENA
Athena is about 5. She had a heck of a hard time in her former
life. She'd been hit by a car- had a fractured femur that was
never cared for- and that has now eroded thru the pelvic girdle
bones causing quite a bit of pain. We've had her to the ortho
specialist who says possibly a hip replacement MIGHT help but
possibly not. So we are maintaining her on analgesics at regular
doses of twice a day to alleviate any pain. Seems to be helping.
She weighs in at about 85 pounds and is housetrained and prefers
being a couch potato or just lying around on a soft bed. Oh- and
she also has two 22 gun shells in her other hip area. Nice folks
this loving girl lived with... long long ago. We say no dogs (cause
she will want to play and it will hurt her) and no cats (she may
want to chase etc etc etc ) and no small kids- she's big and they
might get knocked around)

JAVA
Tip writes:
"I picked her up from a man in one of our "ghetto"
areas I think it was about 4 years ago or maybe a little more.
He had three Dobies all living mostly in little cages. I got the
police involved and he agreed to give her up and make conditions
better for the other two, younger ones. She was we think about
2 years old. We adopted her to a family who loved her dearly.
Two years ago they moved; their petsitter loved Java and talked
them into leaving her with her family rather than taking her.
I have checked
on her when I can over the past two years and she has been ok
but I confess it's been at least six months since I last saw her.
The petsitter left her husband a few months ago. The husband "loves"
this dog and the dog was left with him. One of our volunteers
was at his house this morning and called me to say Java was infested
with ticks and looked awful. I sent our AC guy out there; the
husband was not home but we got him on the phone and he agreed
for us to take the dog to get her checked out. He is not getting
her back. All you could see on her was ticks, plus she is at least
10-20 lbs overweight and she has dry patchy areas on her legs
and callouses on her "elbows".
Despite her
rough beginnings, (and I have to say her original owner never
mistreated her physically and she was well fed) Java has always
been a very gentle, smart, well behaved, sweet girl and she remains
one today. She loves people and gets along great with other dogs
and cats, too. I have actually never met a sweeter dobie and I
have seen some nice ones.
I would really
like her next home to be her forever one. We bathed and dipped
her today, and put her on doxy; tick fever seems a given. We'll
also do a HW test; she was negative four years ago; she damn well
better be negative now or I will really be upset. She is also
now on a diet; she doesn't seem to have hip issues but she soon
will with all that extra weight. She weighed 101 today.
We had Java
in the office all day and will continue to let her hang out with
us during the day. She does not like being alone. One of our staff
put her out in our exercise field today not five minutes before
I pulled in and she was already standing at the gate whimpering.
So I brought her into the office and she was so good - no trouble
at all - we let her stay there all day. She will be back in there
tomorrow. She has a Kuranda bed in her kennel with a soft blanket
on it. You know all the hundreds of dogs I deal with are special
but it's inevitable that some are more special than others for
sometimes odd reasons...Java is one of those. I was so happy to
have gotten her out of the situation she was in before and she
was the first Dobie I ever rescued. She is safe here until we
find her a forever
home."

LADY
Karen writes: "Lady is a blk/tan N/D, 4-6yo who was found
as a skinny stray.
Despite her bedraggled appearance, the vet found her to be healthy
& HW negative.
She is shy & spent her 1st few days in the bathtub hiding
behind the shower curtain.
As she is becoming more secure, she's interacting more with people
& other dogs.
This great watchdog is very sweet & lovable & even tolerates
the cat.
She is not a high energy girl but does pull when walked on a leash.
She would do well as a companion to a someone who is not highly
active & has a yard for her to run in.
Update on Lady: Lady
is still somewhat shy but has learned to stand up for herself
to the other dogs. She is extremely smart.
She pull on her leash & would prefer to have a fenced yard
where she can run like the wind.
She is good with cats & OK with kids but tends to shy away
from them. She has gained weight & her coat has now filled
in."
Please fill out our
application and send it to Karen at...dobermannrescue@earthlink.net.
Lady is fostered in

FAITH
AND HOPE
Faith and Hope, we
think, are a mother daughter team respectively.
Faith is a little hefty. She weighs 103 pounds, and is working
on sliming down.
Faith will grab you by your heartstrings first. and Hope will
follow.
These girls were confiscated
from their former home because of neglect.
They had no shelter and no water. Imagine how that feels on a
hot day in a tropical climate.
Since going into fosterhood in Fort Myers, these girls have become
very secure and loving pets,
and are really enjoying life as Dobies who are treasured.
They need regularity
and love in their new home. Lots of both.
Plus at least a 6-foot stockade fence enclosure without any step-ups
near that fencing.
They are both heartworm
negative, on monthly preventative, are up-to-date on vaccines,
and are spayed. Woohoo!
They need to be placed
in a home without little children because they are very big.
If you are special
and can work with these lovely and special all natural red gals
(tails included - yay!)...then please fill out our application
and send it to us at...dobermannrescue@earthlink.net
Faith and Hope are
fostered in Lee county.

| SHELBY
Jude writes: "Shelby's
a lovely 5.5 year old blue girl who was first placed nearly 5
years ago.
She is housetrained and good with children (raised with one who
is now 7).
She isn't fond of cats or other dogs being she's got some Queen
Diva in her make-up.
She's got some scars and injuries because her former family decided
to get a new dog.
When that dog fought with Shelby, guess who got the boot? Nice,
huh?
Shelby's blue doberman CMA (color mutant alopecia).
Her coat isn't as luxurious as some, but a good diet, regular
baths, and some flax seed oil capsules
has her feeling pretty good about herself.
Write to Jude at FDPRR.
Shelby is fostered
in Lee county.
