J and J Dog Supplies

Tonight is the last night – like 2 more hours – of the FREEDOM sale at JandJ Dog Supplies. They have a few items that are on sale for 10% off. JandJ is a dog obedience retailer that shows up at some specialty dog shows, not in my area, but you can also buy their wonderful stuff on-line. This weekend, they had the utility articles on sale. I need them because I haven’t got any except in storage, and I can’t find where I packed them. Besides that, they are 20+ years old and not even sure if they are not crumbled up or not. So tonight, I bought a new 12-piece set. That is 6 leather and 6 metal scent articles for 10% off. You can see them here, if you’re not familiar with scent articles. Well, the dog learns to scent discriminate with sniffing these beauties.

Raven! Get off that table now!

Besides that, I got 6 boxes of OBEY treats. If you buy 6 of most of their items, you get a better deal. Six boxes of OBEY treats is a good thing. I’m going to give Raven a box a night for dinner for 6 nights to see if they live up to their name. Hmmm.

A Visit from the Electric Co

Rope tied around tree

The neighbors behind me have a rope attached to a tree limb 25 feet up. At the end is a spring and a loop. I know this because as I was coming into the house, I saw the rope being flung into the air. Then I opened the back door and lightning bolts came through the air right in front of my face!

Spring on electric wire

I turned to where noise was coming from and the idiot had flung that spring right over the electric wires! I said, “What was that! What’s going on!” The idiot didn’t answer. Just went away. It got very quiet.

30-foot pole pulling the fuse

So I called the Electric Co and they came out. I held the flashlight and the guy used a 30-foot pole to try to poke the spring and it’s rope off the power lines. Sparks were flying, so he pulled the 30 foot telescoping pole in and had to go into the idiot’s yard who did this and shut off the electricity to the block so he could unhook that piece from the wires without an electrical shower.

I don’t think the owners in the house knew what had happened. I think they are grandparents. I heard an old grumpy man voice say, “It’s always something,” as the the Electric Co man was doing his thing trying to shut the power off.

That said, I missed my Cat Chat show – the second half – which was the good half with the vet coming on. Stupid people!

So now, they cut the end off the rope, so no more spring, but now those long rope ends – two pieces – are flying back and forth in the air. It is UGLY. And one day, the winds will gust enough and the rope will wrap around those wires and it will do more damage. The the Electric Co guy didn’t tell them to remove that whole rope. There’s no culpability anymore.

Newspaper Route to the SPCA Wildlife Care Center in Fort Lauderdale

Every Friday, I collect newspapers in the highrise I work in. I pick up the papers from seven floors, pack them up, roll them down to the back of my truck, and during my lunch break, I take them to our local Wildlife Center. I’ve been doing this for nearly seven years. Hmmm…seven is lucky, isn’t it?What a nice tail!
Iguana in the Wildlife Center of Fort Lauderdale Driveway

Last Friday, I found the welcome wagon, for the first time, strolling across the driveway entrance. I didn’t catch his name, but he is a handsome iguana, indeed!

Hauling a bird cage from one place to the other. Hospital Entrance

These folks at the SPCA Wildlife Care Center are unrelenting in helping wildlife and small animal pets such as gerbils, birds, rabbits, reptiles anything not dog or cat. Here we have an employee hauling a bird cage from the bird building to the hospital building. I’ve brought many injured doves and pigeons to the Wildlife Center over the years.

Front of Wildlife CenterThis is what the entrance looks like from the slender parking lot inside, and just to the left behind that gate is where I drop off the boxes and bundles of newspapers I put together every Friday. The hallway I drop off the boxes and bundles of newspapers at every Friday. It’s a collaborative effort. If not for the folks in the building saving the papers, I wouldn’t have them to take to the center. And thank goodness for the Wildlife Center, who helps the locals with injured wildlife, and just like the reason Dobermann rescue is in “business,” there are people who get small pets and decide they no longer want them. The Wildlife Center takes them in to rehome, too. Click to visit their website: SPCA Wildlife Care Center

Two Police K9’s (allegedly) Killed by Their Partners – How you can help!

Hi,
Tracie Hotchner, who is the author of the Dog Bible and the Cat Bible has two radio shows.  One is Cat Chat on Wed nights, Sirius Radio channel 112 at 8 pm, and the other is Dog Talk on WLIU, but also it’s accessible on the Internet via live streaming OR after the live broadcast (which you can call in to ask questions, make comments, etc.), you can listen to the podcast.  I get an e-mail regarding the topic of the show every Saturday, and the link to the website where I can listen any time.

The good news is that Tracie has contacted Dale Bartlett, Deputy manager of Animal Cruelty Issues at HSUS, who will be discussing the Miami Dade case referenced in the e-mails below in which two officers of the law (allegedly) killed their own K9 partners, one (GSD) by kicking to death and one (Bloodhound) by starvation.  She will have him on promptly at 11:05 (Eastern time) this Saturday, and will be on for the first few minutes of the show for a breaking news segment.  He will describe the case and what listeners can do to help.  Then in July, Tracie will have Dale back for a follow-up on this case.

Go to www.DogTalkTheRadioShow.com to learn about the show.  You can sign up for the podcast there, too.  If you want to listen to the show live on Saturday, you can go to www.WLIU.org and click on “live streaming.”

Thanks,
Helen

Two miami police officers are on trial for murdering their K9 partners.

Rondal Brown goes on trial in May for (allegedly) starving his 4-year-old Bloodhound, Dynasty, to death.

Allen Cockfield goes on trial in July for (allegedly) kicking his German Shepherd, Duke, to death.

The Director of Animal Cruelty Issues for the HSUS and the State Attorney’s Office in miami are asking for calls from everyone across the country to convict these “men.”

Below is an e-mail from Ed, who outlines 3 points you can make when calling.  The call will be fast and the clerk will take your name and comments to give to the judge regarding sentencing, when it comes to that.  If convicted of a felony, and killing a K9 officer is a 3rd degree felony for civilians, these officers will be permenanently removed from their careers.  I called and it took just 2 minutes!

Please call the Assistant State Attorney, Isis Perez at 305-547-0664.

Here are Ed’s three points and he said he presented them very nicely:

1.  That both felons receive the MAXIMUM allowable under the law;
2.  That both felons be relieved of any accrued benefits;
3.  That both felons be disallowed from ever owning or controlling an animal.

As Ed said – Please make a call!  Support the prosecution and influence their sentence.

Click to sign a petition, too, but PLEASE call.  That is most important.
